Was surfing the channels when I stumbled into CNA Special Showcase : The Corporation Part II... very interesting albeit rather disturbing show!
imagine doing a survey analysing how parents succumb to children's nagging to buy toys as advertised through the media... and using the findings to further perpetuate the marketing that targets young children! imagine that they are purposely and consciously starting from young so that the effect will carry through as they grow up! it was initially amusing to see how starkly different the concept of marketing have changed over the years... but the exact thinking that goes behind it became so terrifyingly manipulative! there's a media boss who laughed and coyly said that she wasn't sure whether it was moral or otherwise... it was clear she didn't much care either way! she even have psychologists on her board of staff to think up the best marketing strategies!
Then there's The Awful Truth trying to reverse-manipulate effect of media (was so sadistically "funny" that they got these guys who lost their voice from smoking singing carols to cigarette companies)... and then there's these fellas who manage to get corporate sponsorship for their college by becoming walking billboards... the world just get weirder and weirder... I don't think I want kids to watch TV anymore!!
but then... what can they do? reading apparently is so out of fashion, they actually have to organise a World Book Day
I'm supposedly all grown up... but I'm still (and maybe all the more) confused by the world! :|
