New-look passports to carry new ID numbers

Excerpt:
GET ready for a new-look Singapore passport from October, featuring a new number different from one's identity card number, and just five years' validity, not 10.
So holders will no longer have their NRIC number in their passports but a number that will be changed whenever they lose their documents.
As announced last year, the new passport will have a computer chip embedded in it, containing all the passport holder's unique facial features and fingerprints.
October was chosen so Singapore can stay on the visa-free list of countries for the United States, which is introducing biometric checks. Other countries are making similar moves.
He went on to assure Singaporeans that those with valid passports wouldn't need to get new ones in October as they will remain valid. 'Otherwise you're going to jam up the system.'

yah... I knew it was coming, but the news was still rather upsetting... just renewed my passport around a year ago... have been travelling quite a lot... but still not enough that my passport been so well-utilised...
been musing about going Canada to visit that person, which would require me to get a new passport... however, I don't think mummy especially would take that well (the visit that is, not the passport :])... but still, been thinking about them quite a lot lately... and everytime i do, get such a choking feeling of missing... it's been almost 3 yrs... :|
in other news... SA Tours have NOT confirmed the Bali booking... maybe should check out Chan Bros after all... but package-wise, find the former much better... (or maybe should bait Z to check it out, since B & R were so heartbroken she's not coming hehe) I've sent V an email to enquire regarding the status of the reservation, if no response then tomorrow shall call him up coz I'm going to be mad if he ask me to come down on a weekday agains to collect the stuff! need to confirm soon as it might clash with CB's wedding... planning it such that it won't but it'll now depend on the flight timings... *send out mind-waves* V: please call me back to confirm ASAP! ;)
daddy btw gave me some voucher for KL... but if go with mum & dad, then we'll have to stay at Puchong or at least stopover, then no fun alreadi......
