3 school shootings in barely a week.

I have to say I'm thankful for Singapore being such an paternistic state. For being so unyielding on security. I still think those roving armed army personnel look silly, but I'm glad though we now have CCTVs and security guards, we have not yet come to a point (and I hope we shall never ever ever) reach a stage when we need to check people going to school for weapons.

I'm not saying that that is so terrible, when statistics shows that US urban school which have such measures in place are actually safer than rural schools who don't feel some measures are required, I just hope we never ever get to a situation when such things become a necessary measure.

I was just recently watching an Oprah special on the crisis state of US schools, and though The Ministry can be inflexible and so very bureaucratic, it can be a good thing that we are small enough that we could be organised to be more or less standardised.

That our modest schools still have good amenities as compared to the better. Not terrible amenities as compared to the good and very good. That the good results of a pupil from a neighbourhood school would more or less measure up to another from a so-called elite school.

Singapore may not be perfect. It does have plenty of quirks to gripe about. But all in all, though I love to see the rest of the world, this is still where I always want to come back to.

*dabs patriotic tears*

Hah!
