Everything sure is moving fast this year. It's only January and panic regarding P1 registration have emerged!

At my side, it's mostly spillover effect. We have quite a few on the waiting list for P1. Irony was, some could have so easily enrolled, having siblings already here. But parents cite work, being overseas, simple old forgetfulness for not registering the kids on time.

The "plus" side for me was we made a narrow escape from balloting last year. The minus was, some of the kids on the waiting list are not enrolled anywhere else because, against our advise to register elsewhere, the parents felt it was a bargaining tool to gain a place here. Unfortunately, my hands are also tied as my classes are already all at full capacity.

On the other side, we have parents who would move, volunteer, and do just about anything to get their children in certain elite schools. Sometimes I do wonder if parents who don't dare appear in secondary schools for fear of incurring teenagers' wrath, would do the same should entry to secondary school be along the same guidelines!

Some parents worry about P1 registration when the kids are just toddlers. Some don't seem to notice at all that their child have reached the right age for school!

Which goes to prove, I guess, that there's always two sides to a coin.

Sidenote: The Sumiko Tan article on Sunday Times was also interesting. But since the Straits Times Interactive has long been no longer so widely interactive, you'll have to wait for when I have time to scan in the article on my take on it.
